Toronto Black-Owned Restaurant Week 2025 Highlights Top Culinary Talent
Toronto’s food scene is about to get even more exciting with the return of Black-Owned Restaurant Week in 2025. This special event shines a spotlight on the city’s talented Black chefs and restaurant owners, offering food lovers a chance to try amazing dishes from across the African and Caribbean diaspora.
From May 5 to 11, 2025, over 30 Black-owned restaurants will offer special menus and dishes that showcase their unique culinary skills. Whether you love traditional Caribbean jerk chicken, West African jollof rice, or modern fusion creations, there’s something delicious waiting for you.
“This week is all about celebrating the incredible contributions Black chefs make to Toronto’s food culture,” says Maya Johnson, the event organizer. “It’s a perfect opportunity for people to discover new flavors and support local businesses.”
Participating restaurants include popular spots like Boukan, which serves Haitian-inspired dishes, Jerk Paradise with its famous Jamaican specialties, and Kiza Restaurant & Lounge, known for pan-African cuisine. Each restaurant will offer either a prix-fixe menu or special dishes created just for this week.
The event isn’t just about great food—it’s also about building community. Many restaurants will host special events including cooking demonstrations, live music, and talks with chefs about the history and significance of their dishes.
First-time participant Chef Andre Morris of Soul Roots says, “I’m excited to share my family’s recipes and show how our food tells the story of our heritage. This is more than just a meal—it’s a cultural experience.”
Toronto Black-Owned Restaurant Week has grown every year since it began in 2021. Last year’s event brought in thousands of diners and helped many participating restaurants gain new regular customers.
Food lovers can find the full list of participating restaurants and their special menus on the official Toronto Black-Owned Restaurant Week website starting April 1st. Reservations are recommended since popular spots tend to fill up quickly during this celebration.
So mark your calendars for May 5-11, 2025, and get ready to taste some of the most flavorful and meaningful food Toronto has to offer!
